Electric Awning Retract Problems

Hello,
When we were trying to come back home from Florida our electric awning on Puma toyhauler would not retract. It would extend, but not retract.

After we left it alone for a couple hours, the awning retracted albeit bucking or vibrating as it did.

According to some forums these awnings have stall limits on the electric motors. By letting them sit, some forums say, they cool off and then work again. Other forums say that if the awnings do not roll up square this might contribute to the problem.

Anybody have any tips or suggestions on how to test or diagnose what the problem might be???

Before you do any replacement, extend the awning and lube every joint and pivot point with dry lube (not silicone). I had same problem and lubeing the points fixed it.

  • Mine did that once after a gust of wind whipped it hard. I rolled it up by "extending" it... just kept rolling. It then reversed and has acted normally ever since.
  • Might be the Control Box in the basement - -- I unplugged mine an use the one inside the main door and everything works fine. Doesn't totally fix the problem .... but, it works fine for now
