Electric power awning

Hello. Our new trailer has a power awning on it. This weekend it rained on us quite a bit so I lowered one side lower than the other do the water would run off. When I put the awning away do I have to level it out first or just retract it the way it is?

Thankyou.
  • My Dometic awning with knobs needs to be returned to it's normal appearance before stowing. . The Carefree, the Dometic replaced, had three positions notches on both arms could be adjusted and rolled up in the adjusted position. BTW, if I replace my awning again, it will not be a powered awning. They a worthless...
  • Mine has no knobs. It comes straight out and the weight of the water pooling on top of it makes the front of the awning dip a bit to automatically dump the rain water.
  • On my awning, you need to pull down on each side to adjust. In order to hold that adjustment, you need to tighten the knobs. You do need to loosen the knobs before retracting.

    Mine is a dometic.

  • Assuming you have an awning like this. You pull down on the loswest horizonal bar to lower that side. You do not have to straighten it back to close the awning. The bar will straighten itself. However, the motors on the awnings are not that powerfull and it could lead to the gears stripping. So, I would make it a habit to just straighten it before retracting the awning.
  • My dealer told me to raise both sized back up with retracting the awning. For rain, lower one side. He didn't say anything about leaving one side loose so it would lower on its own. I had an awning once (manual) and it pooled with water. Never again. Once they stretch out, they're never the same. Don't take chances. Just take a moment and raise both sides and retract.
  • I can't picture knobs on ours. I'll have to go check. I imagine there are different designs though.

    Thanks for the responses!
  • the directions with ours state to lower one side if desired, and you can close the awning without adjusting it back to level, so that's what we're doing.
  • Loosen the knobs and retract it. With a power awning you really don't need to lower one side if it rains. Just leave the knobs loose and the weight of the rain lowers one side for you. That's how they're designed to work.
  • It goes straight in and out by power but once it's out a bit you can manually lower one side a bit. Sorry if I wasn't clear
  • Didn't know there was an electric awning you could lower one side. :h

Ours goes straight out and straight back in.
