- MrWizardModeratorWe all have our own ideas of what 'concept' means
The designers idea is different than yours
You were an American visiting , you wanted to see as much as possible
You weren't going out for the weekend or short holiday, you weren't going to one destination, you were touring
I said it would get most to their destination, and i think that is a correct assumption
I did not say it was practical for touring or extended driving - Cloud_DancerExplorer IIYeah, it's not for everyone. It's in the research/development stage. At my age, I have to leave it for the younger generations to worry about. I'm stuck field-testing an ole Dutch Star (the longest job I've ever had)...:B

That range will take most to their destination
#1: What is the concept where the downward facing solar panels on the front end cap will pick up any power? It looks like they slapped flexible solar panels on every available surface with no consideration of practicality.
#2: Even in Europe, 100 miles is very light on range.
PS: we did a camper van trip through southern Germany a couple years ago and know several Europeans who have MH's. Typical power pedestal was coin operated and gave you 1kwh per 0.50euro. So that would be 50euro to fill up a 100kwh battery bank (ignoring the fact you have to keep feeding coins constantly). The camper van got 30mpg at 6.00euro per gal, so 100 miles would be about 20euro. If the panels were perfectly aligned (false because you can't get sun on all 4 sides at the same time), 3kw of panels would put out maybe 12kwh per day and assuming you use some for house loads, that's a couple miles per day from solar.
I would have been more impressed if the side panels flipped up to create awnings and allowed you to aim them at the sun. You might actually get something close to 3kw during the midday hours. - MrWizardModerator#1 it's a Concept vehicle, it's whole purpose is to show case some tech, and see if there is an interest

That range will take most to their destination - TvovExplorer IIWouldn't the heat created by those black panels require extra air conditioning? Which would defeat any "savings"?
- BumpyroadExplorerI hope they make it auto pilot drive to really mess things up. and what would that generator run on? air?
bumpy - wa8yxmExplorer IIIWell.. like others have said that's a bit anemic on the driving range, I normally too 20, 60, or 200-400 miles in a day depending on where I am going from and to.. OF course a generator might well extend that range a bit.
Second the Motor seems a tad anemic but I'm in a Class A and not a light weight C. - wildtoadExplorer III can see if this helping a lot once you get to your final destination, or one where you will stay for a day or so. My only real concern with most electrical ( only ) powered vehicles is what to do while waiting for the thing to recharge? Seems to turn a five hour daily run into around 8 with all the stops for "fuel".
- gboppExplorerPut all those panels on a gas/diesel rig. You could eliminate the generator and, sell power back while at home or the Campground?
- Isaac-1ExplorerWow an RV with a 103 mile range between charges, I think this concept needs some work, plus my rough math says the solar powers would likely take a week or more to recharge the batteries for the return trip.
