I will have to admit I have not used very many stand alone G P S units but Street Atlas and a laptop seems to be the best for me.
With this link http://www.discoveryowners.com/cginfolinks.htm you can add almost anything you want to add to the route. Low Clearance etc.
DeLorme does not support any road construction. That is the only thing that I would like that is not available.
