I don't EXPECT a manufacturer to do work after the warranty has expired but figure there's no fault in asking either. In essence if you don't ask you are in fact telling yourself "No". Haven't any RV warranty experience but have with a fridge, stove and most recently a tent structure. The fridge problem worked out well since in part the manufacturer was in the process of selling the business to another company; they paid for parts and labour in total.
The stove was a total failure in terms of getting them to replace a part but goodness did I learn a lot in the process. Purchased a new motherboard a year(orrrrr 2 or maybee 3) before and never opened the box. When I did realised it was the wrong model. Talked my way up and down the mgmt. chain and got a V.P. in charge of specs and technicians to laugh and cajole me thru making a mod to the motherboard that allowed me to replace it but errrrr not before I neglected to unplug the stove in my haste and needed to buy a new cord:S. I'd entertained the V.P. so much I wasn't charged for shipping the new part.
Finally, earlier this month, a tent pole section broke on my Kelty SunShade. Called to ask about the cost for a replacement part and was informed if I shipped the pole to them (my dime) they'd replace the shattered pole section and re-string it if needed for free return shipping, parts and labour. Wasn't expecting this at all! Oh and they never asked if the unit was under warranty or not.
In conclusion I'll never buy another Amana fridge mostly because it was purchased by a new company that I'm not crazy about.
I probably will never purchase another Frigidaire stove because their replacement part costs are in general overpriced and geared towards the consumer just buying new as well as the fact the stove just wasn't made to last 15+ years.
Kelty, on the other hand, will certainly have no problem getting money from me again.
