Extended warranty

you break down, you make it to an rv repair place. You call the warranty company to see if the breakdown will be covered then the dealer says he does not work with warranty company's. You pay the bill. You submit a claim to the warranty company. They then say it was unauthorized Repair. What do you do then?
  • Unless its a manuf backed warranty i.e. ford, GM, FCA. or any of the major RV manuf. they are worthless! 3rd party warranties are useless.
  • Only Factory has warranties

All others are 'service contracts' which MUST HAVE PRIOR AUTHORIZATION before having any thing done....

    Any other way...YOU pay.

OP- if you called the company first and they did authorize the repair but the shop would not work with the warranty company, then you should have called the company back and ask how to proceed. All you can do now is what darsben suggests- see if the is an appeals process in the paperwork you should have.
  • Our service contract has served us well. It has approved the repairs and more than paid for itself. However, you must obey all their rules and get prior authorization. I worked with one repair facility that wanted me to pay them. I called the company and got the work approved, and we paid the repair company and the service contract company paid us back. But if you did not get prior approval as it states in your contract, you are probably not going to be paid for the work.

You read the contract (better late than never).
Does it have an appeal process?
Does it have an arbitration clause?
Did you need authorization before repairs were started?
All these things are in that piece of paper no one ever reads until to late

    Read the contract FINE PRINT..
Cause they make it sound like everythings covered,,, everything !
Then you have a claim , oh that's not covered or the item is covered but not access to the covered item.

I just found this out on mine.
Part of the deal buying the new to us MH the previous owner had bought an extended warranty . He paid $3655.00 for it. So he transferred it into our name.

I have a noise that comes in at 57 mph and goes away at 65 mph.
I noticed while replacing the front anti sway bar the rear of the trany was wet.

I took it into the ford fleet dealership that works on MH's.
They test drove it , verified the noise , and verified it was the rear trany seal leaking.
Noise was driveline angle do to leaf springs ,and also caused trany seal leak.

It is equipped with air bags in the rear , they aired the bags up to 80 PSI road test and now noise is gone.
Which means the rear leaf springs are bad, needs replaced or rearched.
Extended warranty will pay to have the trany seal replaced and the rear leaf springs.

Here's the catch they will not pay the time difference to get access to remove the leaf spring shackle bolt. The grey tank is enclosed and blocks access to the bolt.

Shop wants 4 hours to remove enclosed grey tank.
These extended warranties CTA's ( cover their a$$'s) well !

I hope I don't have any problems with electronics can't imagine that expense for """access""" they don't cover
  • We've had really good luck on the warranties we've purchased. Something's bound to go wrong with a house on wheels, so we get put out the money for peace of mind. I do make sure to follow process and so far my warranties have paid for themselves. To each his own.
