F150 towing

Hey guys I have a 2014 f150 5.0 3.55s 4x4 Crewcab
My dad has a camper sitting near my house in NC and asked me to pull it to his house in NY
2017 jay flight...info below
Unloaded Vehicle Weight (lbs) View Definition 6515
Dry Hitch Weight (lbs) View Definition 635
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (lbs) View Definition 9250
Cargo Carrying Capacity (lbs) View Definition 2735
Travel length is 32ft

Now I’ve pulled 25-28ft flat trailers with my truck fine
I’m a little worried about this thing being a parachute (never pulled a camper before) I normally do 6th gear lockout and lock cruise at 65 but I was wondering if anyone has experience pulling in this type of situation, I know that GVWR is over my capacity but I guess if all tanks are empty I would go off UVW which is under capacity but still a lot on my truck for 10 hours.
Any information would be appreciated!

It’s roughly an 8ish hour drive with nothing, I towed a boat up to my dads a year ago doing an average of 65 and it took me about 10.5 hours... basing it off of that

  • I think it’s doable, yes I do have trailer brakes, 10-12% of the trailer for tounge weight is still Iwas under my load weight and yes it does have sway control hitch. I just want to know what the experienced guys think before I take a 10 hour trip with this thing behind me haha

This doesn't tell us what '14 F150 you have.....and it makes a huge difference.

F15o has 19 different GVWRs from 6000 on up to 8200 lbs
F150 has 5 different RAWR from 3300 up to 4800 lbs.

Sooo...what is your trucks GVWR and more importantly what is its RAWR as its going to be carrying all the load back there.
Payload sticker number doesn't tell us how much load the truck can carry in the bed.

    2014 f150 crewcab, 145 wheelbase, 3.55 electric lock
The gvwr is 7350 with a load raiting is 1581lbs
Technically the max gvwr for my truck is 13,500

  • It sounds doable to me as long as the trailer is not loaded to GVWR and you have the proper hitch set up, tires aired adequately, etc.
  • Tongue weight will be heavier than that number. May exceed your TV's hitch capacity. You need a properly set up weight distribution hitch with away control. You must have a brake controller.

All things considered. I'd hire someone to do it.
  • Personally, I think that trailer is a bit much for the tow vehicle. Just because it's your dad, does not mean you always have to do what he says or asks. If you feel uncomfortable towing the trailer, your gut instinct is probably correct. Don't do it. Does he have a tow vehicle? If so, use it. Spare yours.
