Is there any way to get underneath to see what you are dealing with? 4 inches is a lot to fill. How well will the patch be supported? I'd worry about ending up with a soft spot at the site of the patch and ending up with the vinyl stretching or tearing. I would consider patching the sub-floor while the vinyl is still in good shape.
There is a enclosed underbelly on my Komfort. No way to get to the underneath of the floor without a whole lot of extra work. If thats what I need to do then that is what I will do though. From what I have been told the floor is a sandwiched composite with wood/foam/wood. I have a feeling from underneath I would not find much if any floor damage. I "think" I am going to find the top layer of wood crushed into the foam core. I am told the wood outer surface is fairly thin and does not have much strength and would crush fairly easy in this scenario. I am "thinking" the material in the depression is simply crushed but maybe not compromised in as much as it will support the patch.
Guess I need to just open up the laminate and see what I am really dealing with.
