Fiberglass trailer with temperatures in single digits?

So, I pull into a service plaza on the Ohio Turnpike and see a Casita (maybe Scamp) in the RV lot.

Outside temp gauge reads 9 degrees (Fahrenheit).

These people must be nuts, I think to myself, as I parked the Peterbilt. Shutting down the caterpillar and climbing into my fiberglass shell to turn on the bunk heater.

A bunk heater is a small diesel run heater that keeps me pretty snug without running the big cat.

The figures I always heard...engine idles at one gallon per hour. The bunk heater will only use one gallon in 8 hours.

    We've been comfortably warm in our coach in sub-zero temps on a few occasions. We did burn through a lot of propane though!

    Saw a lot traveling south yesterday on I-75.

    These people are west bound, couple miles from Indiana. Probably going site-seeing at the many RV manufacturers in IN. Maybe even a trip to the RV hall of fame.

    They were probably pretty snug in there. We had a different brand fiberglass trailer and it was very easy to keep warm. Very little heat loss due to the design and not many cubes to heat up. Pretty close quarters to deal with very long.

    If they are from Erie, they must have left before the snow started. Otherwise they would still be digging through the 5' looking for that small white egg.

    Any chance they had electricity? I've found that a small space heater works wonders inside of a small camper in those colder temps.

    I am not sure South is going to be of much help this week, the forecast is calling for a low of 19 degrees here in Louisiana New Years night.

    For a small fee, electric is available. We camped in 20 degree weather in a pup...I know how well a small space heater can work.

    Shhhhh. Don't tell everyone. They have free showers for truckers. There is also a pay laundry near the trucker Lounge. No one had ever asked to see my ID.. I am sure anybody could sneak in there use the washer and dryer and take a free shower.
