Finally got the new truck and TT to the scales

I've been meaning to see where I was at before we head up to Lake Tahoe for a week on our first trip with the new trailer and truck next week.

Last time I was at the scales it was with my Armada, and I quickly realized that I had either too much trailer or not enough vehicle.

Fast forward a month...the Armada has a new owner, and there's an F350 6.7L turbo diesel in the driveway...all I can say is it sure feels very good to have payload to spare :-)

The numbers:

GVWR (per sticker): 11,500lbs

Truck payload (per yellow sticker): 3,306lbs

Actual truck weight w/4 passengers, half a tank of fuel, and big heavy 4-bicycle rack in the bed: 8,660lbs

Trailer w/out gear and dry tanks + ~175lb ProPride hitch: 8,320lbs (9,500 GVWR for trailer)

Tongue weight (truck only on scale with trailer hitched): 1,120lbs

Gross weight of truck + trailer: 16,980lbs

  • From an Armada to a F350PSD with a ProPride? I wish I could make a transition to that level of performance and stability.

Actually I could see that happening a handful of years down the road when it's time to upgrade our TT.
  • When I was stationed in CA years ago, I started with a I4 Perkins normally aspirated diesel and left with a I4 EFI gasser. Both pulled a Scamp into the Sierras every chance I got. My Perkins was slower with less than half the horsepower but would get twice the mileage of the gasser.

Revisiting the area with my PSD towing a toy hauler, those mountains seemed much smaller. Next month, my new CTD will be exploring the Rockies with 22K+ GCWR and I have no doubt it will be an easy trip where we get to watch the scenery instead of the 4-banger shift points.

My 6.0 PSD powered F250 laughed at 19K lb GCW's even when crossing the Continental Divide - Your combination should be an easy drive no matter where you go with that new truck. HWY 50 should be a scenic drive with no drama.

I grew up in that area, and have driven from Pollock Pines to Sierra-at-Tahoe (Sierra Ski Ranch) more times than I can count, and always in under powered 4-bangers...I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how the PSD does on this familiar route!

  • You're gonna enjoy the new ride more than you imagined. Wait till you push the go pedal and it actually goes. The low end torque will knock your socks off!

Do you mean TT on scale only, hitched up ?

I weighed the TV with the TT hitched up, with the TT's wheels off of the scale. I then unhitched the TT, and weighed again, subtracting the second number from the first.
