We also just ask here on Open Roads! Usually someone will have recently stayed wherever it is you are thinking about.
Also, state park websites. We have almost camped at all the Connecticut state park campgrounds - amazing how many there are that I never knew about. This probably goes for all the states... you might be amazed at what is right around you.
