Housing boom is still going strong here in Northern Cali,,I hit up construction sites and ask to have some wood out of the scrap bins,, most of the time they let me,, some have told me to take a hike,,but for the most part I pick up 2x4s,4x4s,4x6 and chip board,,I then will buy fire wood locally and use the kiln dried to get it going. We usually bring a 20 gallon trash can full of construction wood..
We once brought along uncut const wood like five footers and some ply wood,,I brought a chain saw and diced it up as we needed it!! NOT Suggested in CALI,, Got turned into the Rangers,,they were not happy I had a chain saw,,explained what I was doing and they told me to cease!! Not in the campground!! This was on the coast,, What ever,, we took some wood and went to a restaurant parking lot and cut it up back there,, no one had an issue!!
