Fixing up after 2 weeks in one place

We are travelers as my tagline indicates, but earlier this month we spent two weeks in one place and when we do spend a few days in one place we are normally outside exploring. The DW is having trouble walking very far and spent a lot more time in the rig. Guess what, bright sunlight and idle time means I have a long list of fixits.

I do have to say that she has been great about not complaining, but our rig is 23 years old and some cosmetic work has been deferred and has gone mostly un-noticed in the last few years. This last week I have been doing all the usual cleaning after a long campout and she asked if I had some goo gone, of course I did, operative word, "DID". "We" cleaned some old stickum residue off the walls that were left over from the original window covers, spotted the carpet and runners, removed and cleaned all the window screens and frames, rescreened the screen door and found I need to rescreen all the window screens. The faux suede cover on the glove box door was loose around the edges and has been reglued, the cover on the console on the doghouse is also coming loose and will be done today. All but the cleaning of the stickum were my jobs.

There were a lot of water spots on cabinet doors and drawer fronts and she did borrow my Watco Oil to fix that. She has done a lot of the fixits, mostly having to do with her kitchen and carpets. I think I liked the dim yellow incandescent lamps and traveling rather than sitting still while the sun is bright and she has ample opportunity to inspect.

I have to admit that our rig looks great all clean and shiny but boy am I tired. The next trip I am going to impose a three day limit on staying in any one place and just sitting around. Yeah sure I will.

  • We will be doing these things while we are on our 4 month winter stop. This is usually when all the maintenance, heavy duty cleaning, and upgrades happen. One can only eat out, fish, watch football, visit the club house, etc. only so much!
  • Have recently read about uses and tried out the Mr Clean erasers. Many people indicate that they work wonderful for removing old left over glue/adhesive and goop. Just remember -do not scrub as they are abrasive and another tip given to me is just "mist" the sponge with water instead of dunking in water and wringing out as it will last much longer. Many people swear by them. Give it a try. You can buy them almost anywhere in the cleaning aisles including Dollar General.
  • I make a list of things I want to do when we head out for the Winter. I never seem to get them done until we hit the road. I love fixing all the little things and making improvements. Wish I could store my rig at home instead of a storage lot. I could go out a play in it every day.
