- rgatijnet1Explorer IIIIf you drop back to 2011, the Chevy HHR LT flex-fuel is a good vehicle to tow. It can be towed four down with an automatic. You have to remove one fuse, or do like most everyone else and just install a switch. The rear seats fold down to provide a large luggage area or to handle our very large dog. It can also comfortably seat four adults. With the 2.4L engine it gets decent fuel mileage and provides plenty of power for Western mountain excursions. Parts are readily available and used ones are not that expensive. We have towed our HHR now for over 50,000 miles and it has performed well above our initial expectations.

Looking for recommendations for flat towing 2012 or 2013 vehicle.
Appreciate all answers.Posted By: DrewE on 04/15/15 06:47am
It's kind of hard to give good recommendations without knowing what you're looking for in the vehicle besides the ability to flat tow.
Exactly. There are literally hundreds of vehicles that can be flat towed. You really need to give us a more specific type of vehicle you're looking for.
As mentioned the tow most popular are the Jeep Wrangler and the Honda CRV...... We have towed our 86 Toyota 4x4 PU 5-speed, our 2000 Tundra 4x4 auto, and now our 2011 GMC Terrain (same as Chevy Equinox). Each required certain requirements to allow it to be a toad.
So, point us in the right direction....
Ron - ncrowleyExplorer IIThe three I would recommend:
Honda Fit - great car. Lots of room in the hatch back, great gas mileage and good price
Honda CRV - All wheel drive, more room than the Fit, good gas mileage
Jeep Wrangler - go anywhere, do anything. Not great gas mileage. - 2manytoyzExplorerWe towed a Jeep Wrangler with a 36' Class A Bounder. Couldn't feel it back there. A/T is put in park, transfer case in neutral. No towing limitations on speed or distance, unlike many vehicles. Can go most anywhere when you arrive.
Downsized to a TT for now. Retiring in a few years. Will get another Class A, and will tow our 2006 Jeep Wrangler.
I added a roof rack to the Jeep to haul a kayak, and later added a bike rack to the back of the Jeep to haul a couple of bikes. - dkreuzenExplorerI towed a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee and now a 2014. Great car!

- SooboyExplorerWe've had our 2009 Honda CRV from new and have towed it almost 70,000km and driven it another 140,000km without a problem. All i've done is change the oil and replace tires - a very reliable car.
