- Hank85713ExplorerYou didn't specify auto or manual, new used or really what you want, car vs truck so its really hard to say what is good. I have a 94 ranger pu, was going to tow but it weighed in at almost 4000 lbs. Looked around at other stuff ended up with a 13 Hyundai Elantra at 2800lbs. Both are manual trans. Supposedly wifes honda accord could be towed but its a honda so we looked for alternatives. The hyundai is not expensive for a new vehicle has good storage room with rear seats down, get in the 30's for mileage and is maneuverable. SO you just need to know what you want or better explain your requirements.
- mowermechExplorerALWAYS read the Owners Manual for the vehicle being considered for use as a toad!
ALWAYS!
It is the ONLY real source for information about the towability of the vehicle.
However, it is also true that people HAVE towed vehicles that are not considered towable by the manufacturer. They are willing to take the chance that the transmission will not self destruct due to lack of lubrication.
In truth, ANY vehicle, with ANY transmission, CAN be flat towed, IF the owner is willing to pay the price in transmission repairs or replacement. The destruction of the transmission may take place in 100 to 500 miles, or it may last for thousands of miles. There is simply no way to tell!
Vehicles I know to be towable:
Subaru AWD, maanual transmission (automatic transmissions NOT towable)
Almost any Jeep (there are exceptions, read the Owners Manual for instructions)
Almost any 4X4 that has a Neutral position in the transfer case (again, there are exceptions, read...)
Volkswagen original Beetle, Karmann Ghia, and Thing

this might help. 2015 Dinghy Towing Guide.
There are other years available on the Motorhome Magazine website to download for a small charge.
Basically most manual transmissions can be towed 4 down and some 4 wheel drive automatics. We tow a 2008 Chevy Colorado 4WD, 4 door pickup. Easy to set up to tow 4 down. Don't know about the new ones. - lanerdExplorer III don't think you would want to tow any vehicle with flat wheels....do you? :p:E
That said, I'm sure you're referring to towing a vehicle with all four wheels down as opposed to a dolly with two wheels up or a trailer will all four wheels up.
Many, many of the domestic vehicles with auto transmissions are capable of being towed 4-down; however, there are few import vehicle that can. GM, Ford, and Chrysler all have lots to choose from.
If you have a particular vehicle in mind, you can go to: REMCO and plug in the info needed and it will tell you if it can be towed 4-down or requires a transmission lube pump or a driveshaft disconnect.
I noticed you posted in the Class C forum. Please be aware that most class C's are weight limited to a max of 5000 pounds (and some only 3500 lbs) towing. Check your owner's manual for this info.
Good luck in your search...

- carringbExplorerFord has the largest range flat-tow offerings. Some folks had trouble with the Dual-clutch transmissions in the small cars (Fiesta, Focus) but as long as the short towing procedure is followed (basically, waiting for confirmations it is in neutral before killing the ignition) they rarely have problems.
