Flexible Cutting Sheets - Defrosting

I remember reading somewhere that to make it easier to defrost the "Frostfree" freezers in the RV some people had used those flexible cutting sheets on the back wall of the freezer. Being that we full time now, defrosting has been a major pain in the backside. We bought a package of the sheets in Quartzsite in January and the next time we defrosted installed them in the freezer. I want to testify that it works awesome!! I pulled the sheets yesterday and an inch of ice came off so easy! Nothing was behind them at all! The ice slid off like teflon from the sheets. I threw the ice out the door, dried the sheets and re-installed then. Whomever's idea it was, THANK YOU! If you do not yet do this, DO!
I have pictures on my blog of the installation if you want to see them.

Instead of hours, it took 10 minutes max!

Thanks for listening,
Brian

  • You do not need a hair dryer to quickly defrost a fridge, just any old standard fan blowing room air temps into the fridge will do it in minutes. Mine has a drain hole with a plug in the bottom to allow the water to drain out on the ground.

It sure doesn't take me hours or even more than about your 10min using a hair dryer. Now before everyone says NO NO DON'T DO THAT. You put the hair dryer on high and high or med heat and keep it about 12" outside the door of the freezer and make sure you keep it moving. All you want is basically warm circulating air in there and then you can use a plastic spatula to scrap the ice once it's loose. This also loosens any ice on the sides and shelves which if you want a thorough job you have to do something different than just addressing the one back wall of the freezer.
