Flocked Fabric Ceiling Fix?

I have the fabric flocked (sculptured) ceiling, and as you can see by my sig, it is 14 years old. The ceiling looks good, but don't touch it or you may get showered by fine fibers from it, almost like a powder.

Would like to know, short of replacing or covering it up, what can be done to stop the 'shedding'?
  • I just used a small hand held vacuum with a clean filter on a 1 x 2 foot area. First pass got a large amount of white powdery fibers. Second pass, a bit less, but still a lot. Third pass was still more than I expected, plus when I lightly wiped my hand over the area still got white powder on my hand. Might try a stronger vacuum to get more out of it, but it doesn't appear I can get rid of all of the loose stuff. I just don't like the idea of those fibers falling all over the place especially travelling on the 'wonderful' roads we have.
  • dverstra, 505 is a temporary fixative. I don't think it would hold up very long. Good thought tho.
  • My wife uses a spray fabric adhesive for quilting. This might seal the flocking? It's available on Amazon (505 Spray and Fix)
  • Keep us advised, please, as we may develop the same problem.
  • Thanks for the tips. I'm going to try lightly vacuumming the ceiling and see how much comes off and go from there.
  • Scrape/vacuum it all off and redo it. http://www.flockit.com/
  • I cant remember the name of it but craft stores sell a spray adhesive for fabric. I used it years ago on an auto headliner, and it acted as somewhat of a sealer. Check with a craft or fabric store. Hobby lobby or maybe a Joannes.

The best I can think of is to paint it with a solution of white glue and water.Short nap roller and about a half and half proportion of glue and water
This is only a temporary fix at best since the textile is disintegrating and prolly needs to be removed.
