I think it's unrealistic to expect the owner of a business the size of Pilot/Flyng J to know everything that's going on in the business. That's what lower level management is for. The total settlement cost alone in this case only comes to less than half of one percent of PFJ's annual sales. Publicity wise, this was a huge negative event for the company, but functionally and financially, it was peanuts.
