We towed a Jeep Liberty for 5 years with no problems. This spring we decided to get a new one which they do not make any more. The Jeep Cherokee was supposed to be the replacement. Settled on a Cherokee Limited 6 cylinder. We have had it since May 1, 2014.
We soon found out that the new electronic parking brake is a headache since it is easily left on, but now know that sometimes has come on by itself. Once my wife and I both looked to ensure that it was off before towing it to get up on the interstate. Felt it swaying looked in the rear camera to see the tires smoking, etc. Had to stop on the entrance ramp and turn the parking brake off! Had to purchase new rear tires since they were very damaged. The parking brake has now come on at other times we did not turn it on.
Is anyone else having this problem? Yes, we know if you open the door it will come on, but these were times when we did not open the door.
The dealer says they cannot do anything until I remove the after-market wiring harness (installed so the rear lights will work while towing). I will disconnect them, but do not see how that has anything to do with the parking brake.
The latest problem is when we hit a somewhat rough road the front wheel do not realign causing the Cherokee to sway until we stop. Have to go straighten the steering wheel sometimes. This has happened about four times in the last two months. We only have about 7000 miles on the Cherokee.
I am sure the dealer will blame it on the tow bars or something else, but will stick with it. Please let me know if anyone else is experiencing the same problems when towing the 2014 Jeep Cherokees. We have to stick together if we are to get anything done.
