Freightliner part - unavailable

I have a Gulf Stream Atrium motor coach with a Cummins 400 ISL on a
Freightliner chassis.
The power steering pump has developed a small leak around the pressure
relief valve.
I would like to put a seal kit on it to fix the problem but I do not
want to disassemble the pump unless I have an available pump replacement
available in case the seal kit does not do the job.
I called Freightliner and they advised they do not have the pump I need
(part #14-14234-000) and they would have to manufacture one with a
lead time of over 120 days and a cost of $2000.00 which, in my opinion
borders on extortion but that's just my opinion....
My question to you all: does anyone have ANY idea where I might
be able to purchase a used, re-manufactured or new pump for my rig?
I've called most all the parts places I could find on the Internet to
no avail.
Any help greatly appreciated.

  • I would pull the valve off and take it to a hydralic shop and see if they have parts. Most relief valves are sealed with fiber gaskets and o rings, but I have not seen everything.JMHO

take the leaking valve off ,could it be just the threads leaking?

That appears to be exactly what it is...but please read my original
    post.
We are over 700 miles from home and I can't be stranded for over 120
days if it's NOT the plug (leaky threads)...

Call a couple of smaller "mom & pop" delivery companies. When I was working and we needed a part for our older Freight Liners my buddy at the local delivery company always knew where there were some old trucks being parted out. Worth a phone call....Good Luck!

    Unfortunately I don't have a "truck". Apparently Freightliner spec'd
these pumps on their long Freightliner chassis that were custom made
for Gulf Stream. It had to push hydraulic fluid all the way up front
to the steering...about 35-40 feet worth...I just find it hard to
believe I'm the only one in the world that has ever had a problem with
one of these pumps! For Freightliner to not keep at least ONE of these
in their inventory is ..... well .... just not right.

Thanks for your suggestion though. I appreciate it.

    How about after market

I would gladly accept after market, however the one you're showing
here is a different part number. Is there a cross reference list
    someplace for Sterling to Freightliner?

I called findit, regarding Coolbreeze's post and although the
web page said they had one they don't.

  • Coolbreeze...

That be the one....but the $2000.00+ is what I was talking about.
I haven't talked to "findit" but the price they're quoting is about
what Freightliner quoted as well and that pump is not worth $2000.00
unless of course you're like me and it's the only one in the world
which takes me back to my original statement regarding extortion.
I'd bet five bucks that if I call "findit" they'd tell me there would
be at least a 120 day lead on it....

Thank you very kindly for taking the time to find it...I very much
    appreciate it.
