I use to work with a girl in the AF who made a similar mistake. She graduated from her tech school back in the 80s and was assigned to Tyndall AFB in Panama City, FL. She accidently boarded a plane for Panama City, Panama. It took almost a month for them to fix it. In the meantime she was stuck at Howard AFB in Panama.
