fuse disconnect switch for Buick enclave

My buick enclave requires a 50 amp fuse to be removed iprior to towing 4 down. I'd like to install a switch in the cabin wired to the fuse. If I'm reading the online info correctly, I need to use a number 6 wire for this. I woukd also need wire trrminals but I can't fine any that woukd work with number 6 wire. That is pretty thick. I've posts of other people doing this but wondering what wire should be used. Any suggestions appreciated.
  • Roadmaster makes a fused switch for this.

Your car requires two of them.

  • My solution was to go to Pepboys where they had the same amperage fuse, but it was significantly taller. Now it is a breeze to pull the fuse. It also helps that I had to pull the fuse one day when it was about -30F and the dog ears snapped off like they were made of eggshells. Now the cover comes off real easy and makes getting to the fuse a piece of cake.

That's a good chuckle. Might as well laugh as cry about these things.
  • If your reason for doing all of this is to keep the battery from running down when you tow your car, a lot of us have solved this problem more simply just by running a charge line through the harness so that your car battery is being charged from the motorhome alternator while you're towing. This eliminates the need for any type of fuse cutoff switch whatsoever. We just finished a 5500 mile trip from coast to coast and back again and never had a problem with our car battery running down. Ours is a 2013 Honda CRV with the factory GPS so it definitely would run the battery down without the charge line. It's a pretty simple fix.
Good luck however you do it.

"50" amps?? Really? I think mine was only a 15 amp fuse.

Thank you for the part numbers. Spendy buggers. I wonder if anyone has made their own rated to 50 amps.

I thought about that but also mine wilk rack on the miles if I don't pull the fuse.
  • Are you sure about your odometer recording mileage with your key in the ACC position? Most cars must have the key in the full "on" position to record mileage and normally all that's required to tow is that the key be in a position so that the front wheels don't lock.
    Just sayin'........
