In 2006, I had an LL Bean Visa, to get free shipping when purchasing from LL Bean. I found a shirt on sale for 1/2 price ($16). The bill either got thrown out, or lost in the mail, and I forgot I’d bought the shirt. The next bill had a late for of $29, plus interest on $16. It was totally my fault for not paying it on time. After that I closed all my CC accounts, and carry 2 debit cards on different banks.
CC companies don’t have those big fancy buildings, and run all these adds on TV because they give money away on cash back. I know if you are perfect and stay on top of things, you can get a bit back. For me it is not worth the hassle, or risk. The debit cards have the same protection as a CC. In the last $15 years, I’ve used them for rental cars, hotels, airlines, and never had an issue.
Different people like to do things differently. I like the ease of using my debit card, and paying for things once and not having to worry. When choosing a gas station when traveling, i notice the price differences from state to state, out of curiosity. When it is time to fill up i look at ease of getting in and out of the station, not at gas prices. If one station is $0.05 cheaper, and they are packed, and there is a less crowded station with a light to make it easy to get in and out, I’ll pay the extra $3 to fill up.
