as it turned out we topped off in Cottonwood. by the time we got there I was pinging just about 1/2. didn't want to get caught short by the pulls north of Cottonwood. we aimed for the Shell in Cottonwood as next exit claimed it was RV friendly. it is...if you need diesel. the gas pumps would likely have worked but the turn out of the station was pretty sharp and I didn't want to try and fail. so back over the interstate we went and topped off at the Chevron. plenty of room there and yet it wasn't shown as RV Friendly in the 2017 Next Exit. whoever makes those decisions needs refresher training.
as we exited onto 89 and headed north we passed a number of stations with pumps parallel to the street and a few with perpendicular pumps...all of which would've worked out.
btw...anyone heading this way 89 is a mostly good road but there are a couple of stretches that are washboard and other stretches that will cause you to porpoise. liked all of the truck lanes for passing but we caught up to the parade about 30-miles outside of Page. finally worked up to the head of the line to find a pair of U-Haul trucks running 40-45 in a 65.
