Are you talking about contract gate guards at sites like oil fields?
or contract gate attendants at COE lakes/ campgrounds?
The oil field positions have dried up in a lot of the country. Gasoline prices need to get back above $2.50 per gallon for those positions to become wide available again.
COE positions are up for competitive bid yearly. Talking to a COE district office is the place to start.
Thanks,Yes,oilfields.I read the sticky but it's pretty old.Was just wondering if anyone had done it recently. They have posted new jobs on one of the workamping sites.
All the people I know who have done it in Texas (10 couples) have given up. Saw six of those couples last week. None had plans to go back to the Eagle Ford or Permenian Basin this winter.
The threads well describe the base job. Sitting at a gate 24 hours a day 7 days a week and recording who enters and who leaves. Depending upon the activity at the wells on the property the job can vary from trying to stay awake with nothing to do. to too busy to take a bathroom break. The work is busiest when they are fracking 15-20 trucks per hour.
We have friends doing it and they each take a shift meaning one sleeps during the day. They've done it for 3 years to build up their savings. Basically, all they do is work their shift and sleep. We couldn't do it!
