Why is it so popular to design trailers and motor homes with huge, bright stripes and decals. I call it gaudy and over the top. I don't know how many people would want just a solid color RV but why not more subtle. I equate it to the old days of cars which were covered in chrome, stripes and fins and many of us started to "customize" to get a less flashy look, then the European look became popular with little or no chrome, fewer ornaments, black bumpers and a lean mean look. I think we could use some of that with RV's ??

I'm right with you. Those gaudy lookin' rigs scream out, "look at me"!!! There's no accounting for taste.

I'm for simple too but I'm not sure if I could take a plain white box. I know at Lazy Daze they were concerned about eliminating the front cabover windows because they thought it may look too much like a bread truck. They finally did and molded in a bit of design in the cabover section. I guess I'm saying I prefer it the way it is. even thought I tend to be with you on simplicity.Options on the decals would be good. Especially that some of them don't seem to hold up well. Less decals/striping would be best on RVs that had nice lines or shapes-most don't.

We get compliments all the time on our Fox Mountain. Me personally I could take a little less bling, but it is what it is. That's the way they build stuff now.I really don't even notice the color schemes as much as I'm into the floor plan and fit and finish inside. I would venture that with new buyers accounting for 30% of the market that 'curb' appeal is what gets their attention 1st.

We stripped the vinyl from our new fifth wheel. It has the high gloss filon skin so we left it bare; I am amazed at all the compliments we get for the white box. Our goal wasn't to stand out but strangely we are the talk of the parks we visit. I go with it and make up all sorts of stories... at the last park we were the beta testers for drv new designs and the park before that it was a fully custom rig I built by hand. What is most amusing is how pissed some people get because they don't know the brand or floorplan from the decals.

We didn't pay as much attention to the graphics on our motorhome....all we cared about was the mechanics of it, the layout, things like the generator, tanks and how manage them...it's not loud or gaudy, so we're content. But have seen some pretty wild ones out there!

I don't think anyone was telling anybody else their taste was bad. They were just suggesting they don't care for some of the current trends. No body was making or taking it personally.

This is the perfect subject to discuss here. Maybe somebody in the industry will read it and get a hint.

Okay, I stand corrected. But when poster use the words "gaudy" and "no account for taste" and post pictures of rigs with custom paint jobs, it just sound a little personal. I may just need to grow a bit thicker skin. Cheers!! :D

Sadly I doubt it. I can get over the outside stripes and colors but I will never get over the 70's looking material they use on the furniture.

On my first MH I searched and searched for decent looking interiors on a new unit and gave up and decided on a used MH just to get a nice looking material on the couch and dinette.

My swirls are almost 12 years old. And, I'm wishing for the big jackpot so I can buy that spanking new set of swirls,.........on a Newell. This kinda gives me a purpose in my life.

I like the monocolor trailers that airstream produces. That proves a single color will work.

Sometimes, if you are buying used, you just buy what is on the lot. I could have done without the paint job and decals. They just came with the unit we found at a good price in good condition.
