Generally speaking, can you remove the dinette?

Hi guys,

Mostly concerned with class C (and B+) RV's, but also A and B as well if you know.

But, is there generally something (like the genset, etc...) in those boxes in which the dinette seats sit atop? Or can they generally be removed with little hassle?

Begin ramblings-

I want to remove them because I have zero need for them and they take up space. Also, I have back problems and sometimes need to sleep on the floor. If I get one with a slide, it wont be much of an issue, but I have recently been turned on to the Winnebago Vista 21 and/or Itasca Sunstar.

I am really, really, really liking these units. For a single guy mostly looking to disperse camp, these units seem nearly perfect for me. Nice compromise between B and full size C.

Side note: Money is a large factor in wanting to mainly disperse camp, but not the main reason. Main reason is I don't want to be a fart's smell away from my neighbors, and most parks I have seen have RV's packed in like sardines. How is that fun camping?

I smoke cigars and what if my neighbor, who is literally less than 10 feet away, has his window open?

Thanks for any help.

  • You'll have to look at each one, to see what is there. On mine, one of the benches is just storage space, no outside access, but the other holds a fresh water tank and the fresh water fill.

No, you cannot count on them "generally" being removable. RVs don't have a lot of space to waste, and if a space is enclosed it more often than not gets used for something.
  • You'd have to determine whether it is simply storage in the built ins, or whether it is equipment such as water heater, furnace, batteries, power converter, wheel wells, etc. Once you narrow down your choices you can poll people here and ask specifically what is under dinette benches.

I've had two RVs with dinettes. One had wheel well under the seat bench. The other has batteries (accessible from outside).
  • I've been wanting to remove one of the bench seats in my dinette (the bench between the table and the living area), I figure I can use a couple of folding chairs if I need to. Unfortunately, the hot water heaters under that seat. What's that old saying about the best laid plans...

Maybe I'll take another look at it in the future. It shouldn't be hard to move the heater under the other bench seat and just cover up the old opening with an aluminum sheet, pop rivets and some paint.
  • Shouldn't be a problem providing you find out what's underneath. I pulled the dinette out of our 2010 Canyon Star.

There is a thread under Class A Renovations & Ungrades entitled Indoor Furniture if you want to see before and after pics.

As long as your OK with your RV not being be worth a turd in a teacup afterwards then go for it. ;)

Thanks for the reply, but I know I can figure this information out on site, but many of these RV's are far away, etc... So I am wondering if they can normally be removed and this is a non issue, so to speak.

Also, I see a lot of models that just don't come with the dinette, period, so why would removing this item make an RV become worthless? Also, I assume that it could be put back in. Even if it can't, doesn't matter, as this is a must have for me.
