Generator Battery cable replacement

Hello , I have a Cummins Onan7000 generator in a gromming conversion van , the ring battery terminal connector on the end broke , can anyone give me an idea of repair costs and can this be something i can repair at home ? I have done marine terminals like this but i'm concerned on it being done correctly as to not have any problems with the generator .

There are many options on the "best way" to replace the battery terminals. What I do is remove the broken/corroded terminal replace it with one that fits the wire size of the cable. Clean/strip the cable to be free or corrosion then using a set of vise grips and propane torch solder the cable to the terminal then use shrink tape to prevent the corrosion from getting to the cable. I assume you do not have or can borrow a hyd battery crimper and die set.
  • Walmart and other stores sell ready made battery cables. You need to know the length.
  • Check out your LAPS (Local Auto Parts Store) and they probably have the proper hexagon crimper to put a new end on for you.
