Battery Replacement?

The batteries in your 2016 Chevy could possibly last another 4 or 5 years ... if you install new ones, the new ones might not make it 4 or 5 years.

Batteries? Heck I want a 2016 truck with only 20k miles!!

My batts are from 2012 and seem to be ok. I would say if they start your truck and aren't leaking then get a load test done and decide from there. If they are ok why toss them and pay all that money for new ones.

From personal experience, the batteries will appear alive and well until they day they fail.

I am on my 4th set of batteries in my truck.

First set lasted 5 years and 4 months, the original AC Delco. I replaced them with Interstate.

Those interstates lasted me only a month shy of 3 years. I got a warranty replacement. Interstate was awesome in that regard.

That set lasted me 4 years and 3 months. I went out one cold Alberta winter day, Feb 4/19 and it wouldn't start. Truck sat all day in a customers driveway while I worked there.. I had less than a weeks warning where it wouldn't turn over as fast.

I went back to OEM AC Delco with the current set.

The climate you live in does have some bearing on it. Harsh brutal cold doesn't do the batteries any favors. If the truck lives in a more even temperate climate, they may last longer.

My opinion is if you get 5 years on a pair of batteries in a diesel pickup, that's about life expectancy.
Not bad if they give up at home, but if you are out somewhere it can be rather inconvenient. Hard to get a boost from a Honda...

Since I boondock, travel many dirt roads exploring and want no starting difficulties, I replace every three or four years.

I would continue to run them unless you might be in a situation of difficult conditions and all alone. And that is fairly rare.

Do a load test on them. That is about the only reliable way to see what condition they are in. Depending on climate, etc. batteries could last 5 years (hot climates) or less or 10 years in milder climates.

On my 2004 duramax it's on it's 3rd set of batteries. OEM's lasted just shy of 10 years, Next set of Delco's 7 years, Now our son has it and has an Intersate in it.

On my 2015 at 6 1/2 years I replaced the OEM delco's with the top of the line Delco's. The OEM were getting weak, during covid the truck often sat for 3-4 weeks between starts and the were starting to have self discharge issues.

I replaced mine in my 15 RAM at 5 years with nothing wrong. Doesn't take much for the electronics to wack out!

If you are going to push the envelops so to speak be sure and carry some sort of jump start device. As noted most batteries just fail with little warning. The planned obsolescence of automotive batteries is 3 years. Most folks will get more than that with proper maintenance but if you get 3 years you got what you paid for. There is no such thing as a 72 or 84 month battery. They are just taking more of your money knowing that most folks will not own the vehicle that long.

Years ago I worked in a marine Chandlery and we sold a lot of batteries, mostly deep cycle both 6 and 12 volt but also sold a fair number of starting and or the so called dual use batteries. We were one of Trojan's top marine retailers and the info I cite above came straight from the regional Trojan rep. There are only a handful of battery manufacturers in the US and they all make products for hundreds of different labels with not a lot of differences in the actual production of their various product lines.

Mine lasted 12 years. As some on here say: they last until they don't. Maybe carry a set of good jumper cables. I could tell by the dash voltage gauge that it was taking longer for the needle to reach the point that it had for years.
