- wa8yxmExplorer IIIIf I had two generators such as the Honda 2000i which can be run in parallel. I would use one as primary and the other as secondary (less run time)
I would, however, make sure they both got at least a half hour a month on half load or more.
Why?
Eventually they will wear out.. All things do. Even me (As I found out a month ago when I had to go into the body shop for repair work).
And I'd rather not have them both wear out the same week.. If the primary fails.. The back up will have far fewer hours on it and thus in THEORY should be able to take over till I get the primary fixed or replaced. - Mike_LeClairExplorerI don't pay much attention to the hours on each unit. I maintain them both on a monthly basis. Overall, in the grand scheme of things, does it really matter if one machine is run more than the other? I mean, over the entire life of the machines, which theoretically could be thousands of hours, as long as they are repaired, serviced and maintained regularly, it all balances out, right?
I DO like Oakie1's idea of the hour meters though, just cause I'm a gadget guy and a bit of a "prop/gear head". I would be interested in seeing pictures of this setup and maybe a short tutorial how to.
Cheers!
Mike - Okie1ExplorerI put hour meters on mine so its easier to keep track of time and maintenance.
- Vapor_TrailsExplorerYa, I guess so. Most of the time I only bring one. And I try to remember which one I took the last time so I can alternate. I'm pretty good about maintenance so I expect my EU2000's to last a long, long time.

- Desert_CaptainExplorer IIIHad a pair Of Honda 2000's for several years and almost never needed to parallel them (we just went to higher elevation CG's where AC wasn't needed). To try and balance their respective usage I would just alternate between them taking a different one on each trip. Just sold one to my neighbor as we no longer need two with the 4Kw built in that came with the Class C. Kept one just as a back up to take on the longer trips though we never took it out on our last 38 day jaunt. :C
