generator starter hooked up to coach or chassis battery?

Hello, In my 1990 Ford Falcon class-B, the generator's starter is connected to the coach battery. Advantages/disadvantage? I am wondering if this is the "normal" way of connecting the gen's start...

No, the OP is asking about why it is hooked up this way- advantages and disadvantages. I thought it was pretty obvious that running the chassis battery dead while running the genset is a disadvantage. I guess it wasn't.
