Getting out of an extended warranty?

When I purchased the new trailer a few months ago I also went with the extended warranty, figured it couldn't hurt as the hourly shop rate around here is $107. Well since then I realized that I am not going to be able to deal with this shop for 7 years. The service manager has the personality of a toad and the parts department isn't much better. There turnaround time for any service work is over 2 weeks and I have been waiting for warranty parts for almost 3 month plus I have had to call and stop by the shop 4 times to keep them on the ball. I always get some bull story about this and that.
What this place doesn’t understand is I deal with the best trailer repair shop in town (repair and fabrication, no camp trailer sales) on a weekly basis and I know how long these things take and over the last 15 years dealing with trailer repair shops as well as vehicle dealers I have heard all there bull stories so I know when I am being lied to.
So has anyone been able to get out of the extended warranty and had the moneys involved refunded or am I stuck dealing with this place? Hopefully I don’t have a lot of problems with the trailer over the next 7 years or maybe the shop better hope I don’t as I can be a daily pain in their rear.

Since you've a 2015 RV are you sure the extended warranty is actually in play now? Shouldn't it be the manufacturer's warranty currently? As well does the manufacturer's warranty specify what local shops are used?

True, I am going to have to deal with this shop for 6 months to 3 years depending on what problems I have to get the Manufacturers warranty.

  • As mentioned above, most extended warranties are sold by warranty/insurance companies, which allow you to take it anywhere that will accept their payment; usually you just pay your deductible and the difference in covered amount vs. actual charges. As for cancelling, most will also allow you to cancel, though they may pro-rate it for any work already done under the warranty or for any length of coverage already expired. Refer to your warranty booklet and call the warranty company for the most accurate answer....

Also, considering that you bought your trailer new a few months ago, it's likely the extended warranty has not yet covered anything that the standard factory warranty wouldn't have already covered, so I would expect that you should be able to get a full refund... Good luck.
  • Are you sure the extended warranty forces you to the shop? Where you take it should not matter, as long as the shop you choose will do business with that EW company..........
  • What did the warranty company tell you when you asked them you wanted to cancel your extended warranty policy?

Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)
  • Just get a hold of the extended warranty company and ask to cancel it. You will need to fill out a cancellation form. You will get that money credited to your loan if you have one or a check if you paid for it
