Getting trailer from dealer home w/out WDH

Hey guys, thanks again for all of the replies. I got the trailer home last Saturday with no problems. I ended up, as recommended, using the EQ hitch/shank to tow it home without the w/d bars. I

The 900#'s + TW really sagged my truck more than I thought it would. In fact, I have one of EQ's longer shanks and I had to flip it over and lower the ball to the lowest holes.

Drop the ball on the hitch and roll. I have pulled a 33' 9k lb TT with my truck at 70mph with no WDH or sway and it was perfectly fine. One hand on the wheel. Your truck is much more capable than mine. Don't give it another thought.

BTW Good call installing the hitch at home. I have fixed every one of my camping buddies hitches after the dealer installed them. They all said their trailers towed 10x better after that.

More of a concern of mine would be the multiball being the right height.
I drive all the time with no WDH. Personally I don't like how far out past the bumper the ball is.

The "multiball" may not be. If that is the combination 1 7/8", 2" and 2 5/16" straight shank combo's. Check it's rating. They are normally not very strong.

Most likely your new trailer was towed from the factory to the dealer without WD.

Nobody has further commented on the rating of this "multi-ball" and I would make sure it's rated for the TT you will be towing home.

I'd drive it home with out the WD part hooked up. WIth out thinking about it. You are wasting MORE time and energy worrying about this than getting the trailer home! As noted, it came to your dealer with out a WD hooked up, much less a sway system. Just like your 5w, if your trailer will not tow straight with out all these bars, you have an unsafe trailer being towed. I tow without bars, then hook the bars up as an added safety item.

There is NO law, liability etc to make someone tow with wd/anti sway bars. It may be highly recommended, but it is NOT a law or a requirement!

I towed my old TT some 300 miles home one time, when my WD bars literally fell off, less than a qtr of the way thru the trip! I had NO white knuckles, no worries, including the 30-40 mph side winds thru the columbia river gorge! If things are balanced correctly, your axels are not V'd, you are not loaded too much to one side. the trailer SHOULD pull straight. If not. return it! and have the issue fixed, especially if it is an alignment issue, ie V'd axels!

I completely agree. That is why I would rather do it myself, at my place, on my own time schedule. I ordered the hitch thru e-trailer and downloaded the manual. I have thumbed thru the manual numerous times. It does not seem complicated at all as long as your read carefully and take the measurements carefully.

If I were to have my dealer do it I would not trust the install unless I was standing there watching every single move the the installer made. If I am going to invest that time I would just rather do it myself so that I know it was done per the manual and I would have a better understanding of why things were installed the way they were.

x2. Both times I had the dealer install the hitch they didn't get it right. On the 2nd one I knew more than the guy installing it. Coulda, shoulda done it myself but it was free. I still ended up fine tuning it myself at home. The EQ is really easy to install. Just a heads up when you attach the two bars for the L brackets, get some 1/2" conduit to use as spacers for the bolts that hold the plates to the tongue. It will keep them form bending. Just cut them 2" long. I also put a 1/2" weld on the lower part of the outer plate to keep them form moving.

I just either have them put it on or do it your self. Don't take but a few minutes. Worth the time
