God Bless the Florida Highway Patrol !

Was that tire shop the one behind the 4 way truck stop(93 & 6th street) on the other side of the Interstate from the Flying J? We dealt with them a year ago and was not impressed. Glad the NVHP watched out for you.

We had a great experience with Nevada Highway Patrol. 30 miles south of Wells, NV on a 2 lane highway with very little shoulder we had a blowout. No cel service. We were flagging down truckers to call the highway patrol when they got service. DH finally unhooked and went into town to find someone to change the tire, with remnants wrapped around the axle. Highway Patrol finally arrived and stayed with us until the tow truck changed the tire. The patrolman had some less than favorable things to say about this particular tow truck from a station in Wells. We spent the night at the Flying J parking lot and the next day had that station put on 4 new tires. The patrolman came by the station to make sure we were not being overcharged or cheated. We were so appreciative.

In the area I grew up in eastern Virginia, we only had two state troopers to cover the entire county. They knew just about everyone in the county. As teenagers are want to do we would have a few illegal beers then roar up and down the rural roads, squealing the tires and raising havoc. The first time you got caught, you didn't get hauled off to jail or even get a ticket...you got put in the patrol car, got a stern lecture, and got hauled off to your house, where your parents got the full story. I'm not so sure it wouldn't have been better to spend a couple days in jail so my dad could have had time to cool down.

I've had a lot of friends that were LEOs and have a lot of respect for them. Yes, I wish we had a "Like" button on here, too.

I had a flat on my 5th wheel several years back and since it was on the traffic side I went slowly on the shoulder for about 200 yards and pulled onto a crossover in the median on I-75 in northern Michigan. I was just finishing changing the tire and a Michigan state trooper pulled up. He asked if I needed any help and when I told him I was pretty much done he said "Good, I got here just in time." Thought he was going to give me a hard time about pulling into the median crossover, but I think he realized I did the safest thing at the time.

Had a flat on a lonely W Texas highway. Nearby small town sheriff, with a prisoner in his car on his way to county jail, stops to check on us. He can't help but contacts his deputy, who also is the town mechanic, to come out. The kicker is he warns us that since it is Sunday, & his day off, his deputy may be a little drunk so be a little understanding.

Off goes the sheriff & shortly the deputy arrives to help. Yes he had one or two in him but got us on our way.

In the “olden” days, (60’s) I lived in a small town. You know the type, everybody knows everybody’s business, and as a child, if you messed up your mother knew about it from a phone call before you ever got home!

Our town had two police officers on duty at any one time. Of course they knew who we were, and what kind of cars we drove. Often if one of was caught being a “stupid teenager” by the cops, we were told: “Go home.” If we did so, no harm no foul. If we did not, and were seen again that night, the police would take action, write a ticket or whatever.

The cops gave us a break, and you know what? We listened to them and respected them. Ahhh, the good old days.

I hate it when people give LEO a hard time. They are out there serving their community and in my opinion, that deserves respect. True, not all cops are good people, just as not all doctors, mechanics, teachers, or RVers are good people. I have found, however, that they are generally more good than bad.

I have been arrested and have no LEO in my family, so I have no bias in favor of them. I just respect anyone who serves, in any capacity.

I got a ticket in September for going 80 in a 55. After he handed me the $225 ticket, I thanked the state trooper and told him to be safe. HE didn't get me busted, I did.

Anyway, thanks for sharing the stories and thanks to those who serve!

We were on the Extra Terrestrial Highway a few years back and if you've been on it you know there are NO fuel stops. I had been told there WERE fuel stops on that route so I only had 1/4 tank in the MH when we started toward California. After many miles and few if any buildings the low fuel light came on. I knew I had a few miles left and expected to see a fuel stop any time but of course that never happened. After a few more miles I realized I was probably about out and about this time I saw an old rough looking empty race track so I pulled into the lot and called Coach Net. CN told me it would take a while to find someone to deliver gas so I resigned myself to wait. CN called back later and said they would have gas sent to us but couldn't say how long. I thought we'd probably be there all night. Just then over the rise comes a white pickup truck and guess who; Tonopah County Sheriff's Dept. The deputy told me I was only a couple of miles outside town and if I'd crossed the next tall ridge in the road I'd have seen it. He followed me into town right up to a Shell station in case I ran dry before getting there. I got his name and badge # and wrote a letter of commendation to the sheriff. I also emailed him and received a reply thanking me for visiting his town.

Back in the early '70,s I would hitchhike from Camp Lejeune to NY on long weekends or on leave. I was someplace in Maryland and a Trooper picked me up.. You know I was daisey chained from one jurisdiction to the next culminating with a local deputy delivering me to my fathers door!
