Has anyone had a good experience or meet some one while camping that puts a smile on your face when you think back?... about 6 or 7 years ago, we were in Wells Maine setting up for the week. I noticed a few sites over someone had the same camper as ours. The owner noticed it about the same time and walked over to say hi. He noticed I didn't have a hitch pin ( the one that locks the trailer to the ball ). He explained how important it is and, being new to camping, I thanked him. Before he left later that day, he went to the camp store and bought me a hitch pin. Still use it and it always brings me back to that day.

I am glad that he was able to help you. I always try to help someone when traveling if I can. Sometimes I am told to mind my own business, but not often. One small act of kindness can go a long way and be remembered for a long time. It may be just listening to an older person who wants to talk and has no one to talk to or listen. I have heard some good stories from people in my travels. JMO

We were in Maine with a pop-up years ago and there were a lot of tent campers that got everything wet in a bad rain storm. Someone in a DP got out a 35 cup ( or something like that) and let all the wet tent campers come under his awning for coffee and eggs if they wanted.

We were camping along the beach in Southern California, the MH behind had an older couple and I noticed he had a tool chest out and kept going in & out of the MH always looking perplexed. I went over and asked if they were having a problem. He said they had a leak and he couldn't fix it. I offered to help, it turned out to be the connection for the cold water on their bathroom sink. I fixed it. They were staying for a couple of weeks and so were we. After a few days of spending time together, even going into town for lunch; their 10 year old Granddaughter came to stay with them for awhile. A couple of days went by and the couple needed to head in to town to dump. They asked if we would watch their Granddaughter while they went in to town. We did.For years we kept in touch with them and would from time to time meet for a camping trip. They lived in Texas but would come to California every couple of years to stay by the beach.

(Deb here) We were camped in Valdez, AK (Bear Paw II - right on the harbor) for several days - it was late summer, and several people were camped there who had brought boats and were catching their winter supply of salmon. I struck up a conversation with a nice woman while we did our laundry - she lived in Fairbanks and was killing time while her husband fished. The next morning, she knocked on my door and said "Come with me - you need to learn more about Alaska so you'll come back some day" She took me to the Valdez Museum (a fascinating place!) and then the day she and her husband were leaving, they gave us some fresh salmon!

A few years ago we where camping in a motor home in Rocky Mountain National park. On an adjacent site was a young Canadian, just married couple. They were just hiking and camping. They did not even have an ice chest. My wife and I invited them to join us for supper the second evening. Reluctantly, they accepted our invitation. Because they were so many years younger than us, I am not sure they knew what to expect being invited by total strangers. My wife fixed a very nice meal. They both insisted on washing the dishes after we finished eating. We sent them back to their campsite that evening with about a dozen home-baked cookies.Before we left the next morning they paid us a visit to thank us for our hospitality. They were an exceptionally nice young couple.Ray

Several of my high school friends and myself get together every year for a weekend campout.Guys only. Usually about the third weekend of April. We always camp in the same remote Nat. Forrest campground.It is small,only about nine campsites and one group site which we usually camp in.One year it happened to be on Easter weekend.The campground was filled, several famileys with children. One of the guys in our clan drove into town and returned with a very large bucket filled with Easter eggs,candy, prize eggs and other goodies. At first light on Easter morning the entire campground was covered with Easter goodies,those kids had a blast.Some of the guys cooked a huge breakfast and we invited every one in the campground,most all came.We all had an Easter to remember.

I honestly meet someone new on every trip. I have never been on a trip when I haven't made a new friend.

So true!

Being newbies ourselves I have learned so much from folks on this site. Last year in a local campground I started talking to a couple on their maiden voyage with a brand new 5th wheel and truck. I shared some of the things I found important and some must have items. Funny enough, I ran into them again over 4th of July weekend. She remembered me and they are now officially snowbirds, she again thanked me for my valuable insight (said they love the oxygenics). Just made me feel good to help others and make some new friends!

Ounce a year at my seasonal site I cook blueberry pancakes for the staff and whom ever wants to join us.

This is a major contributor for us with camping, the people we meet and the things we get to see! :B Many interesting times that as the OP stated bring a smile to your face when you think about it or them.
