Good info for buyers of recently-orphaned RVs

Just saw this on RV Daily Report. While it's geared towards dealers, and suggestions on how to handle an orphan situation from their standpoint, us consumers should know this, too, so we can go in armed with good info, on what we should expect in this situation. Pay particular note that this can be state-specific!

  • Interesting info. thanks for sharing. I guess I might have to do something, if my manufacturer goes under I do not see that in the near future tho. but we never know in this day and age

I'm not sure I follow. You make a good faith deal with a dealer and then after every one agrees in good faith you ask for 1200 to 1800 dollars worth of product for free. Not sure I follow. How does that work.

I believe that's called "thinking out loud".

  • We we were fortunate that when Sunline RV closed it's doors that our unit was already out of warranty. And, Sunline made such a quality trailer that we didn't have any issues. But I really feel sorry for folks that end up with a orphan under warranty and then have a major issue with the roof or wall delamination, etc. When you're talking major repairs, I don't think even the local dealer will be willing to absorb that kind of repair cost.
  • It's bad all the way around. Everyone with units that have any warranty issues from now on will be hurt. I had a "lifetime" warranty on the roof of my Coleman popup. As many of you know, those roofs (ABS) had issues. I felt comfortable knowing that the company would take care of me. Until they went under. There went my comfort. Now the roof was my problem. Nasty.

  • that is what happened in our town when fleetwood went under. the dealer had TT's on the load for three years or better.
