The Cabela's article was right on in our opinion.

As volunteers in parks we have spent many hours picking up cigarette butts, pop/beer tabs, candy wrappers, etc. We have cleaned out firepits before your arrival which contained leftover food stuffs, cans, bottles, dirty diapers. Would you have wanted to cook over your fire if we didn't clean it out?

In a popular national park we dug out to 2' deep around the water faucets along the roads. Water was being left standing. The reason - toothpaste, hair and garbage from dishes. The faucets had a sign at each faucet 'no washing of hair, dishes or teeth'. That was not a fun job!

In another national park someone emptied their porta-potty in the outside kitchen sink meant for campers to do their dishes.

In the same park a couple weeks later a man chose to get into that sink after dark and take his bath.

A park had a state-of-the-art stainless steel fish cleaning station with a donation box. Upon opening the box it was filled with fish guts. We did roadside cleanup near the fish station and picked up dead fish carcasses.

Ohh I see the occasional cat or bird in the window of an RV and since they are contained doesn't compel me to "inform" on 'em.

A few years back camped next to a couple with a service dog and he ALMOST made me like dogs, in general....

Still I'm going with my general thunk as explained to the 4 leg loving member of my household when I came home to a newly made by me fitted sofa cover that was being used as a scratching post: "Yanno? It's not the cats' (three of them hellions) fault that they are destroying the furniture. It's YOUR'S for NOT being able to teach em properly. 12 years later and he's worshiping at their shrines solo whilst the parrot and I roll our eyes.......

Too many people think it's alllll about them nowadays.

Oh and for the record when we camp in whatever manner, the parrot, who I've known longer than my children (and tell them he's better behaved than them:D) stays at home. He's from the Amazon, not the American West.

well, that is very interesting. We have a group of newcomers from another culture to our country that dont have a problem with any of that.

I especially am disgusted to watch them rinse cloth diapers in a bucket at the communal taps. This is the reason why I haul my own water in.

back to being happy happy happy ! WOOO!!! road trip season is fast approaching :)

Having someones kids cut through my site, or the guy two trailers down run his contractor grade generator during generator hours - those are little things... if it's getting on my nerves, I go for a walk, or a drive, or just go inside and turn on the rooftop AC fan, which is SO LOUD I can't hear anything else.

I'll take the time to politely remind them about campground manners. Most kids apologize and don't do it again. If it's within the rules, such as the generator time you spoke of, I'll do the same-get away from it. I'm a very light sleeper but I take the onus on myself to deal with as much of the noise as possible-up to a certain point. If I decide to go to bed early, it's my issue. If it's after quiet hours then that might be a whole different discussion.

The explanation is simple. The solution isn't. Some people are inconsiderate pigs.

Crowe, I agree. If my camping neighbors were keeping me up all night, I would demand the park do something, or insist on a refund. I always pay by check or card, so I have that leverage that for the "no refunds" type of park operator.

sigh ... so many little things to worry about.

When you are kept up all night or rousted from a good sleep it's not a "little thing." Maybe it's those who can't or won't follow rules that should stay home, not the ones that are respectful.

Please keep in mind those of us that are asking for a little common courtesy are NOT asking for a completely quiet campground with no kids, dogs, etc. We are asking for something we should not have to-respect for others.
