Good Sam bad at Flying J gas.

I thought I was getting the Good Sam discount at Flying J gas stations until I bothered to look at my gas receipt. Wasn't getting the 3 cent discount. Altho I hate going into the store I went in to ask em. The girl said the card I have been using at campgrounds was not "Activated". ??? She redid the transaction while lots of truck drivers waited. She than said she would "Activate" the card for me. Very nice girl. I left but returned into the store, in 5 minutes, to buy some sodas & chips but at a different clerk. I again tried to use the G.Sam discount card and was told that the card was "not activated". LOL. Truck drivers standing in line so I said "nevermind". Anyone else having this type trouble? :R

We've looked at them and unfortunately their interest rates are higher than our current card. Of course if you are one that pays off the bill each month then the rate shouldn't matter to you. We also noticed that a lot of the cash back offers are for a limited time or have other prerequisites. Not worth it for us to go an take out more credit, just to save a few bucks a month. WE have Flying J RV Plus Card that gives us 7 cents off a gallon of gas. We don't have a Flying J or Pilot near us and only use it on trips. When traveling, we find that the gas stations right off the highway are all pretty competitive. Flying J never seems to be any higher. And then with the discount we get, it's even cheaper. Plus we like the RV lanes and being able to get in and out easily when in the RV. While you may find gas cheaper down the road in town, it's not worth to save a few pennies and actually spend as much if not more in gas getting there and back to the highway to just say the money. Plus, gas stations in town, usually do not have the space or are harder to get in and out of.

We have a Sheetz gas station near our house where we usually fill up at. We have a rewards type card with them that gives us 3 cents off a gallon of gas. At the price of gas right now, that's about 1.5% off. We are fine with that. If we need gas and there is somewhere that is even cheaper, we will fill up there.
  • What CA Traveler is saying well at least the last part.

Depending on the price of the fuel your getting.
There are still some Brand name stations that its the same price for instance we have a local Chevron that the cash Chevron CC price is the same as using another CC
So it would be cheaper to use your CC IF you have one that does cash back.

I know a couple years ago traveling back East when gas prices were 3.89 - 4.39
The difference between the station that Cash/their Brand CC was usually .06-.08 cheaper than if I used my bank CC well at even using my bank CC card with the 3% cash back I was getting .11 to .13 a gallon cost hence doing better than the GS/ Flying J high price fuel savings card...

Now that gas prices are down to 2.45 I only save .07 using my Bank CC..
Coarse the MH is in hibernation till spring you know for when fuel prices will go back up ;( ....

  • I use the GS Swipe & Save and get 3 cents off of the cash price at FJ. I pay with my CC card and get 5% cash back on the next bill. The GS card also starts the truck pumps and I go inside to pay.
  • I get 3 cents off at the pump with Pilot RV (not credit card) card. Tried my GS card - no good. Asked inside, was told it only works inside, not at the pump. So, same savings with Pilot card, more convenient, will just keep using that. ST
  • I notice the Good Sam Logo is not present under your screen name. That may be a clue as to Good Sam not having proper information concerning your account. That could cause faulty information being sent to Flying J.
  • We have the Flyin J Good SAm credit card and heve never used it. The J and Pilot typically are 20 cents or more per gallon than buying in town. With the extra fuel tank, we just continue on our way and get cheaper fuel at the destination.

  • Used mine from MI to MS to AZ and back and worked at all flying J's
  • Mine works great. And once its working you dont need to go into the store. Once you swipe your credit card the machine will prompt you to swipe your rewards card. And I have got some great discounts on overnight stays at participating parks. Happy camper here with the program.
  • Mines worked in Georgia, Florida and Alabama thus far, with no activations or anything to do. Worked at pump and at register.

What you can do is call flying J customer service. I had the problem last year turns out that the upload of your info into flyingJ is a manual process done by FlyingJ. @-3 minutes on the phone with FLyINGJ customer service took care of the problem.
