Well, goes to show ya - get the right person involved and amazing what can happen!

Got it all settled and have the 5er back; but some real lessons learned and others I was reminded of from back in my marketing days.

But it was two issues - the Extended Warranty worked out wonderfully. But the CW issue with lack of service will linger in my mind.

But, boy, when I went to pick it up the Service Advisor was so super sweet (she is a nice person anyhow - just caught in the middle of this mess for the most part) and the Service Manager ( whom I had never met) just gave me the look during the conversation of who is this guy and what did he do to get this kinda attention. But he was more than nice and told me to make sure I keep him in the loop in the future.

I guess I am odd person out, cause I have had good luck with my extended warranty picking up my repairs. I just got a new warranty through Wholesale Warranties, so we will see how this one goes.

My first one was through Western General.

For the record, this is the only one I have ever purchased - will see how it goes today picking up the 5er before making further comment.

An extended warranty isn't really a warranty, you are purchasing an insurance product with lots of fine print.

An extended warranty is seldom a good deal. Over a lifetime, saving your money by not buying the ridiculously priced extended warranties, you will come out much further ahead. I self-insure product purchases.

BTW, Consumers Union (Consumer Reports Magazine) advises AGAINST buying extended warranties.

Good plan to only buy extended warranties on (some) electronics, like large flat screen TV.

Put the $ in an "RV repair account" instead...;)

I guess what gets to me is that I have had GS Ext Warranty for many, many years on various units and, yes, they have covered some pidly things. As you know, these warranties are not cheap and, granted, they are in the mode to fine print you. I guess I am spoiled by my truck / auto / home people. I have hardly ever made a claim there but some yokel scraped my 5er - I send them a picture and an estimate and 4 days later I am receiving a check - and so pleasant on the phone willing to help.

And it does not help that CW has really dropped the ball on all this. They have had my 5er for a month; yes, a month. Took them over 2 weeks to really do a thing. Then one thing after another went wrong. The advisor never came out to see the issues when I brought it in - he was too busy eating his lunch and chasing in and out of his office while trying to write me up. So he got a lot of things wrong.

And they had "repaired" an slight hyraulic leak after the last time we were out. It started leaking again the first part of this trip so they have to re-do that and I am kinda getting the impression they think I should pay for it.

Also, the landing gear (hydraulic) switch went out right when it was there last time. They replaced it by getting a cheapie switch someplace and gluing it on the existing plate. We go to leave the rv park in ID and the landing gear would not come up. Switch failed - fourth stop on our trip. I had to call Lippert and get a new switch coming air. Being creative I took the switch from the stabilizers in the back and put it in for the landing gear and forgot out using the rear units until the new switch arrived. Hearing some hesitancy about them backing that up as well.

I will be having a very, very interesting meeting with the Serv Mgr tomorrow when I pick it up! :-)

Scott - thanks for monitoring this and all; that does make me feel a lot better. I will email you.

It sounds like its time to cancel that warranty. We just canceled ours from a different company and will deposit that money into a self insurance fund. Way too much money to gamble that you may need it and then we're sorry that's not covered. I should have listened before I purchased it.
