You can get a tax break. LINK See IRS form 5695. - CavemanCharlieExplorer III

Many of us should tighten up and better insulate our houses. If we did there would be less fuel used. But, people don't seem to be willing to do that. It's easier to just turn up the thermostat and then complain about the price of fuel. And, there is no incentive to insulate either. Maybe if people were given a tax break to do it they would. But, then someone would complain about the tax break. So, nothing ever gets done and noting ever gets better.
With this propane "shortage" we're glad for the 6" walls and double glazed windows. Plus we have a whole house air exchanger as the house is so tight.
There you go. Wish I had a place that nice. - SRTExplorer

Consumer gets screwed every time.
.... that's because we have a Free Enterprise system .... where we're free to be greedy or free to provide fair value.
Guess which freedom mankind will exercise if left up to itself? - kab449ExplorerI heat with Anthracite coal and Obama's war on coal is affecting that also. He sends the mine inspector thugs to issue silly citations and fines which drive the independent miners around here out of business. Hence shortages make it pretty hard to get when the weather turns brutal cold.
I also had a buddy who worked the fracking wells above Williamsport where they found so much gas that the price really came down. The owners of the wells reacted by shutting down enough of the wells to drive the price backup.
Consumer gets screwed every time. - a64armtExplorerWe have a 500 gal tank and most of our appliances are propane (hot water, heat, stove, fireplace). When we first moved from Georgia we were using about 150 gal a month in the winter. I quickly learned that it was going cost me big. We have since turned the thermostat down and run the thermostat down to 50 at night (programable) and average 80 gal a month in the winter, 100 if it is cold like recently.
In the fall we filled up at $1.78 a gal, it was $2.30 just after Christmas. Yesterday we bought 150 gal at $3 a gal. I hate this weather, this state and dearly want to move back south.
I wish the jackass in the White House would quit stonewalling the Keystone Pipeline.
As for global warming...... If 70 deg days in winter is the price we are paying for driving big gas guzzling trucks and SUV's, then I will keep on truck'in and tell others to do the same. While I agree we should watch our pollution, I think that global warming is more hype than truth and those that push the agenda are in it for personal gain.
CNG isn't an option, but i would like to change our gas fireplace insert for a real wood burning stove.

I was at Costco yesterday and their charge for filling a 20# gas grill sized cylinder was $12.99.
Check that, today it is $17.99 - john_betExplorer IIFor me I have two choices to heat the house. Propane or electricity. Electricity in the form of an electric furnace or geo-thermal heat pump. Propane is costing me $1.79 a gal. this year. Electricity is $.09 a kwh. Next years cost is up in the year yet.

But are they up and working overtime?
If anyone believes there is a shortage of propane they only need to come to PA or OH and look around. This is a scheme that was cooked up by the oil and gas industry. There are 4 processing plants within 100 miles of my home that did not exist 5 years ago. Look into Mark West Corp. It is fabricated to produce the profits they desire. Don't believe the bull ****!
