Had a TIA

I had one myself about two years ago while camping. Got up and took a shower and couldn't figure out how to button my shirt or jeans and I couldn't speak a correct sentence. My wife threw my butt in the truck and got in to the hospital.

I was there about five days and recovered pretty much. I swear my memory isn't as good, but maybe that's just getting older. We went back to the campground and continued our camping when I was discharged from the hospital.

Since that episode we've been camping all over the southeast. I can't say it's slowed me up much. I just make sure I take my meds everyday. I'm also a type 2 diabetic.

I feel for you. Had a what the doctors said was a minor stroke a few years ago and one TIA since.

A little advice. Have your wife keep an eye on you. She will readily see any changes in behavior that you may not even realize are happening. My wife picked up changes that I did not notice.

I had 2 about 20 yrs ago. Follow doctor's orders. Probably will have you on baby aspirin from now on. I know what you mean about being "spooky"!!!!! and Dog Folks' advice on having your wife noticing your "changes" is VERY important for ANYONE........... well, not YOUR wife for anyone....you know what I mean. :) And yes, go ahead and enjoy.....IF your doctor lets you go. :)

Rkentzal.....sorry to hear your news. It is a weird feeling and a bit scarey.

If your Dr gives you the ok go camping or do anything else you enjoy.


I had one about 10 years ago in my early 40's. I had a really bad headache a week after pnuemonia. Hubby took me to hosp and they said all ok just a headache.

I got up one morning about 4 days later, hubby was away with work. I couldn't spit to brush teeth, tongue felt funny and I drooled when trying to drink. My one side of my face was frozen, eye wide open, couldn't move a muscle. The other side my face drooped terribly.

Anyway, because of other medical issues I just thought it was something to do with those and it would go away. A few days later hubby came home, took one look at me and rushed me to emerg.

2 weeks later and 24lbs lighter (couldn't eat or drink) I came home. The results....a small stroke on one side and bells palsey on the other at the same time. What are the odds of that happening?

Certainly get medical advice from a medical professional. The good news is that MOST of the time any ill effects are temporary from a TIA but other than medicine adjustments you will likely have no restrictions placed on your activities but THAT also should come from your Dr.

Face went numb for about twenty minutes and I just felt sick for the rest of the day. Doing good now Doc has me taking 81 mg aspirin twice a day. I have hemochromatosis which has not helped and DB II, sleep apnea chronic back and neck pain. My back went out just after the TIA and I could barley walk left leg was affected then it gets you to thinking is it connected. That was five days of hell but that has cleared to. Yes wife is watching over me sometimes to much.

DW had a TIA about 12 years ago and never a problem since. Carries on normal productive life with no effect whatsoever, and I cannot keep up to her go, go, go all the time.

My husband had a widow maker heart attack 2 years ago & we just purchased a new motor home. My question is if you have no cell or wifi service how would you contact someone? We are planning a trip that will take us to some areas that I have been told have no service so I am really concerned. Also there will be someone that had a heart transplant 2 years ago. Is there any type of service I could add that would give me constant service? Thanks.

Meds is usually the cause for more illness, try the holistic way and not eating foods with grains, 3 basic foods is all you need, Meat, Veggies and Fruits..

My 79yo mother has had 2 TIAs this year. The only residual effects that she/we have noticed is difficulty recalling words at times and some loss of function in her right arm. It has not stopped her from camping or playing her hammered dulcimer or driving 400 miles to see us. She has admitted that she's slowing down and she starting to find camping more difficult than before--it takes her 1-2 days now to get ready and it takes her all day to hitch up and drive there or drive home. But she still tows her own little camper and packs her Border Collie along with her.
