Had sleep study last night: calling all auto cpap users!

I have been diagnosed with "significant" sleep apnea.

Insurance wouldn't agree to a split sleep study, and the nurse said they would have put me on cpap after 2 hours of sleep. I stopped breathing for nearly a minute once and oxygen went down into the 60s.

Doc wrote me a script for a cpap and said to get one today. Nope. No cpap for me. Had trouble with one place that told me 2 weeks and I have an appt with the second place Thursday at 9:30.

He ordered an auto cpap with humidifier and min setting of 7 with max of 20.

Did you have to wait 3 plus days before actually getting the machine?

Also, my RV doesn't have a bed end table. Can I put the CPAP on the floor?
  • I thought I slept very well until they told me this morning that I had severe sleep apnea. I can't wait to get the report to see how bad it is-- I mean, no wonder I've been dragging!!
  • my second test is tonight, there thousands of people that use them , it,ll all work .I don,t have one yet but I bet they get one for me. test is very simple ,they glue a bunch of props to your head and to bed you go, gotta pee during the night they just unplug you,
  • Thanks-- please keep the tips and tricks coming.

I know I shouldn't be too upset about Thursday, but I have been feeling so so so bad that I am so excited about the thought of feeling better. Ill do anything to feel better.

    Mdmerell, good luck tonight!
  • Bummer, I have a sleep study scheduled for tonight. Guess it depends on who your insurance company is but so far everything is working. As for a night stand, it's one of the reasons we picked ours and why I wonder about so many floor plans without night stands and/or outlets. My partners doctor told her she could set it on the floor and gave her some extra hose. I'd rather draw air from above the floor level. Normally, she seems to like it a little below her head level while laying in bed. Keeps condensation from collecting in hose or draining toward the mask.
  • Hopefully your new to you cpap will run on both 120AC and 12DC.

Be sure to get a full length soft tube cover to minimize "Rainout" in the tube during cold nights. Check ebay.

I made an "7" shaped ledge, held in place under the mattress. It is easily stowed when not in use. If you decide to keep it on the floor you may need an 8ft hose instead of the standard 6ft.

Lot of users here so there will be more suggestions to follow.
