Great idea, but watch out for creepy cawlers in your shoes. Maybe you should keep it inside overnight. :)
We use the large totes and at night we put the lid on. No creepy, crawley things..I have noticed after being closed up on a hot night is can be smelly the next day...Maybe i'll throw a bounce sheet in there?
Try sprinkling baking soda inside, then stuffing the smelly shoes with newspaper. The baking soda absorbs the odors, while the newspaper absorbs both odor and dampness. Whenever possible let the shoes sit out in natural sunlight. It's a home remedy we learned while our boys were growing up in youth league and high school soccer programs, as well as our camping experiences.
