- GolfcartExplorerHere in texas, and I assume every other state, you need to have it visible and lit at night.
I went to oreilly auto part store and bought a 4$ bracket(with light) and have it set up in case i need to put my generator on my rear hitch mount cargo carrier.
It took me about 5 minutes to install it CavemanCharlie wrote:
Nope, Illegal. It must me on either the left side and lighted or in the center and lighted.
(Not so sure about in the center anymore either. It used to be that way but, I would not risk it these days. )
Moving it the other side would look really bad and get you pulled over in a second.
Please provide your state's statute stating such.- CavemanCharlieExplorer III

Switch sides on your tail light assemblies, if the license plate is mounted to a bracket on one of them, or go to any Auto Parts store or Farm and Home supply and buy a replacement light assembly with a license frame and attach it the opposite side of the trailer.

Oh, I also moved the license plate lamp. - Redcatcher70ExplorerSwitch sides on your tail light assemblies, if the license plate is mounted to a bracket on one of them, or go to any Auto Parts store or Farm and Home supply and buy a replacement light assembly with a license frame and attach it the opposite side of the trailer.

I was pulled over when the license plate light burned out and we didn't know i They will pull an out of state driver over for any reason they can just to check you out. Better have it lit.
Yup, that is the way it is. Then once they have you pulled over they are going to make absolutely sure that everything else checks out too. If anything looks the least bit suspicious they will do search of you and the vehicle too. - ol_Bombero-JCExplorer

I want to hang some chairs from our ladder on the back of our class C but when I do it blocks the view of the license plate. Has anyone had any problems with this with the police?
Naw! - Did it for years. Finally just took the plate off and tossed it in the trash.
"They" regularly say on here, "There is no such thing as a dumb question".
"They" are..... wrong!!
~ - AmericalVetteExplorerIt is the law, so it's best to be in compliance. Me, 27 years on the job and never issued anything but a warning for such an infraction... never a ticket. There were just too many other things that required time and attention.

- Steve_B_ExplorerI drive to and from Florida every year and often see this. Also, cars with plate frames that hide what state the plate is from. There's a lot of them so there must not be much of an issue or not too many tickets issued or people wouldn't be so lax.
