So what do we do when we block our TV's plate with our trailers?
When I put on my bikes you can still see the plate even though it's in front of them.
This discussion sometimes comes up on the truck camper forum; namely, when the TC overhangs the back of the truck, does the license plate stay on the back of the truck, where it is obscured, or does it go on the back of the TC where it can be seen. The answer seems simple enough, except that some states REQUIRE that the license plate be attached to the vehicle itself and others don't make that distinction. To further confuse the issue, some states require the TC to be registered and a plate displayed while others do not. I haven't read of anyone getting a ticket one way or the other. - dodge_guyExplorer IISo what do we do when we block our TV's plate with our trailers?
When I put on my bikes you can still see the plate even though it's in front of them. - mgirardoExplorerAnytime we travel with bikes on our cars, we obscure the license plate. We've done it around town, a few hours away to hundreds of miles away through several states. Never been bothered. When we towed our travel trailer, the trailer obscured the license plate of both our tow vehicles. Was never bothered then in the 20,000+ miles traveled with it.
Yes, it is illegal to obscure the license plate. Although I've never been cited in my many miles and years obscuring ours, it doesn't mean I won't get cited the next time I do it. It's really not a concern I have.
-Michael - 1968mooneyExplorerCovering your license plate will give them cause to pull you over. Then they will search your RV and find the drugs you are hauling. They will also find the guns and ammo. You will be locked up and then sent to Gitmo for being a terrorist. Your RV will be foreclosed on and all this for covering up a license plate. Whew :S
- buckyExplorer III find it best to never instigate a conversation with law enforcement regarding an action that I could have avoided. Don't block your plate. They are there to enforce the law after all. Just doing their job.
I once forgot to put my new sticker on my 5er tag but I did stick it in my truck when it came in the mail. A MD Trooper rode back there for 5 miles where he could plainly see the tag but finally pulled past. I guess he ran the tag and found out it had been renewed properly. Next stop the new sticker went on quick. - jnharleyExplorerWe do not use a cover on our bikes because it not only hides the license plate but partially obscures the 5th wheel running lights.
- samsontdogExplorerI got a ticket in Calif for blocking lic plate and another one in Nevada for light burned out over lic plate

Hanging chairs from ladder blocking license plate
yes I've been stopped twice in two different states for blocking the license plate. :(
I added a bike rack that fits an RV square bumper. It works perfectly for lawn chairs. AND also can carry a spare! Just mount it on the 'opposite side' of where the license plate is.
I put the lawn chairs on the back part where the tire would be and I carry my dogs expens on the front of it. Bike hooks make great clamps for them. I've also carried lawn chairs on both sides of the rack.
IMHO a great little rack for haulin all kinds of stuff for the RV other than bikes!
Is there any reason you can't hang the chairs higher up on the ladder?

I was able to find a license plate bracket that mounts in a 2-inch hitch receiver. Problem solved.
but with no light, another problem found.
bumpy - tpiExplorerCan't you hang the chairs above the plate? I have chairs from Amazon in nylon bag I throw up on the cabover bed.
I want to keep traffic stops to absolute minimum. That means nothing I'm starting out with will trigger one-including blocked license plate. Even if you get just warning, it is a waste of time, and often the stopping location is less than optimum. Not worth it over a couple of chairs.
