has anyone tried these convection cooktops as advertised

We have an induction cooktop in our S&B house. DW would never consider using anything else now. Pay attention to the above statement about "magnetic" pans. If a magnet won't stick to the pan, it won't heat on an induction cooktop. DW has taken to keeping a refrigerator magnet in a side pocket of her purse just for checking on that.
