Unfortunately, this issue has gotten away from Law enforcement, probably forever. Changes need to be made:
1. Car technology has changed so much that 55/65mph speed limits, in most areas, are ridiculous.
2. I would suggest EVERYONE should be road-tested every 5 years for the ability to drive in a sensible manner. Holding a license is a privilege and not a right.
3. Speed limits should be increased to 80mph for rural and 70mph for urban highways. With logical exceptions of course!
4. Law enforcement should then focus on aggressive drivers, left lane huggers and those who clearly should not be behind the wheel.
Great post!
But it would never happen because we don't have that much common sense.
Pretty good post, problem is not really the speeders, been one most of my life. It is those that speed without any thought to what is coming up. They race up on the next car in the lane and slam on the brakes as they have no place to go.
I use to do a skills test, set the cruse at 5 to 10 over, then drive as far as I could without using the brakes. This builds great driving skills as you need to be looking far down the road to be able to smoothly change lanes so you don't run up on a slower driver. Rules were always a safe distance behind cars in in front and clear smooth lane changes.
I doubt you will see the speed limits in Oregon above 65 for the next four years, the recently reelected Governor is a ER Tamra surgeon, he has seen way too much carnage in his time to let get higher.
