I agree that today's vehicles are safer, but they do not eliminate the risk of catastrophic injury or death experienced in high-speed collisions. In some cases, there is little or no time to even react, or brake. And, no matter what safety equipment is in place, my belief is a vehicle that's gone airborne (or out of control) will travel a farther distance when traveling at higher speeds, and will likely result in more extensive property damage and injuries.
Heck, I've hobbled around for days after stubbing my toe in the middle of the night. I sure don't want to imagine how I'd feel after a high-speed collision.
