Have the Police stopped enforcing our traffic laws?

We towed our 5er from northern Maine to Florida, about 2000 +/- miles. During this journey we observed about 75% of the total traffic driving 15 to 20 + MPH over the posted speed limit. Also observed was tailgating, lane maneuvers without signaling, aggressive “driving to endanger”, and yield signs that would be better used for target practice for we observed hardly anyone obeying a yield sign. Regular, common to us, driver courtesy was left behind in northern Maine accept for a few very courteous Pennsylvania drivers.

I realize the Police are under staffed and busy otherwise with catching bad guys and illegals :D, but it would have been refreshing to observe more active traffic enforcement.
Safe travels.

  • I don't travel cross country, as much as I used to. It always seemed to me, that the plains states, and less populated areas, had the more casual drivers.

It was easy to tell when coming closer to a large city, due to the increasing traffic, and speed increasing. Going through big city freeways, the speeds often driven, were around 80mph, even with a posted 55.

Sure everyone was in a hurry, but you soon realized, at this speed, in bumper to bumper traffic, there was nothing a LEO could do. There was no pulling in, or over.

I had a car in front of me, change lanes, right under the rear of an 18 wheeler. It took his right front fender almost all the way off, yet no one even slowed down.

I stay clear of these areas, when towing my FW.

  • In Michigan, when a LFO pulls someone over, it back up traffic for miles. Between the lookie lous and everyone jamming over to the left lane because of the emergency vehicle avoidance laws, a LFO pulling someone over is almost a traffic hazard.

Right now they're probably too busy with resisting-perp training.
