However, the CVC defines a "pickup truck" among other things as having a GVWR under 11,500 pounds (and unladen under 8,001 pounds). So if your truck has 11,500 GVWR you are supposed to stop.

I drive a ford F-250. When I moved to CA I was told by DMV if it did not have a permanent cover over the bed it was considered a commercial vehicle and I had to get a weight certificate and it was registered as such, go figure. So now that it is a commercial vehicle I drop the tailgate and can park in the loading zone and claim I am making a delivery(meter maid did not like that one).
